Biventricular noncompaction: A rare cause of fetal distress and tricuspid regurgitation

Isolated noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium involving both ventricles is a rare entity. Here we report a rare case of biventricular noncompaction presenting with features of fetal distress and moderate tricuspid regurgitation. Noncompaction of both ventricles was diagnosed at birth.

Biventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy in a Patient Presenting with New Onset Seizure: Case Report

Ventricular noncompaction (VNC) of the myocardium is a rare genetic cardiomyopathy caused by a disorder during endocardial morphogenesis and could be accompanied by life-threatening complications. The major clinical manifestations of VNC are heart failure, arrhythmias, and embolic events. The left ventricle is the most commonly reported affected site, but a few cases of right ventricular involv...

Arrhythmogenic Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy: Is There an Echocardiographic Phenotypic Overlap of Two Distinct Cardiomyopathies?

The clinical diagnosis of right ventricular (RV) cardiomyopathies is often challenging. It is difficult to differentiate the isolated left ventricular (LV) noncompaction cardiomyopathy (NC) from biventricular NC or from coexisting arrhythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy (AC). There are currently few established morphologic criteria for the diagnosis other than RV dilation and presence of exce...

Biventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy in an Adult with Unique Facial Dysmorphisms: Case Report and Brief Review

Left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) is a rare cardiomyopathy that is believed it to arise from an arrest in embryonic endomyocardial development. More recent studies suggest that it can be acquired later on in life sporadically. It may be accompanied by life-threatening complications, which are most commonly heart failure, arrhythmias, and thromboembolic events. We report a case of biventricu...

Biventricular noncompaction associated with left ventricular systolic and diastolic dysfunction and severe pulmonary hypertension in a young man.

Noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium is a recently recognized genetic cardiomyopathy. The left ventricle is the most affected site, but right ventricular involvement has been reported in some cases. Diagnosis is made with 2-dimensional echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. The major clinical manifestations are heart failure, arrhythmias and embolic events. A 20-year old...
